Positive Thoughts Only

Survival: When you are in deep trouble, keep your head down, say nothing and try to look like you know what you're doing. T. Boone Pickens agrees, saying that the higher a money climbs, the more people can see his ass.

These may indeed be good warnings and survival techniques, but at what cost?

It's hard to contribute with this kind of' thinking. Is our lot in life just to go through the motions, or are we here to make a difference? Duh! Your rosebush may be full of thorns, but my thornbush has beautiful roses. I decided to do the best I can with what I've got. And that in turn gives me an advantage... a warm feeling all over. Every obstacle presents me an opportunity to improve my condition, and I take advantage of that. How boring and useless life would be otherwise!

Be proactive!

Allow positive thoughts only!

Notice the extra in the ordinary!

Signs Spring Has Sprung

It's been beautiful for weeks, but now it's dry, warm AND beautiful: Spring. Time to go outside for cardio. Time to stop by Walmart on the way home and work on the outside, too. I've got to drop pounds and catch up on my cardio so I can keep up with my daughter, the serious hiker. We're doing the very top end of the A.T., sometime this summer.

Outside

It was bicycling time at the wildlife refuge today. Birds have been migrating and every weekend it's going to be a new show. Sandhill cranes reported the last couple of weeks, with white pelicans before that, and I wanted to see what was around today in the swamps. This is not the quick and easy bike ride, since it takes time to get there and back plus hours and hours of riding in gravel and mud, with stretches where wheels might sink to their hubs, but the payoff is good for the day-long investment.

OK, yes, it's also time for a light post after a few heavy ones.

I'm not an expert birder, but I can recognize some, enjoy all, and even take a picture if I'm quick. My buddy and me made like birddogs today and flushed out birds. Saw Coots, Mallards, Red Winged Blackbirds, Wrens, Woodpeckers, Robins, Killdeer, Gulls, Blue Jays, Hawks, Blue Herons, Egrets, and many I did not recognize. It was a beautiful day to spend in the company of birds.

Worry vs Courage

"The wise man in the storm prays to God, not for safety from danger, but for deliverance from fear. It is the storm within that endangers him, not the storm without." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's amazing what we can do when we try... both in body as well as in mind. But it is in the mind that we fight our battles, and it is the mind that pushes the bodies. Whereas worry and fear keeps us awake at night, faith, belief, courage and valor reformat us to generate the energy needed to make it possible.

Ghost from the past have reappeared, both physically and in remembered words, but I no longer listen to that negative self-talk that cluttered my head from old criticism. I chose to replace it with my message... that I can do just about anything. I will not be scared off by the ghosts nor by the poison they have spread, but will hold my head high in spite of it and laugh at them. I'm still fighting my demons but my goal is to refuse to acknowledge that they are lurking about. I think about how much stronger the struggle made me, not how much it hurt. I turned that page. I have set my goals, I do right, and do not fear. I believe in myself.

Get out of my way, ghosts.
